| EL PRIMER PROYECTO EN SUDAMERICA DE INVESTIGACION DE INGENIERIA SISMICA-GEOTECNICA, SE REALIZARA EN LA CIUDAD DE GUAYAQUIL POR EXPERTOS NORTEAMERICANOS Y ECUATORIANOS |

El Ecuador se encuentra ubicado geográficamente en una de las zonas de mayor actividad sísmica del planeta, conocida como “el cinturón de fuego”, colisionando la placa tectónica Nazca con la placa Sudamericana, provocando las fuentes sísmicas de mayor intensidad para el país. De acuerdo con los estudios de peligro sísmico realizados para la ciudad de Guayaquil (IIFIUC 2001) se espera que ocurra un sismo de gran intensidad en la zona de subducción, propagándose las ondas sísmicas hasta la ciudad de Guayaquil, la aceleración máxima en roca esperada para el Sismo de Diseño Ultimo (10% de probabilidad de excedencia en 50 años) es del orden de 0.25 a 0.30 de la gravedad que corresponde a un periodo de retorno de 475 años. |
